Think Like a Rock Star by Mack Collier

Representing a large brand on social media takes a slightly different approach than managing your personal presence.  It goes beyond simple engagement to building true fans of your business.  Having customers that like you isn’t enough - you need to go for the passionate people who are true fans of your products and services.  Once you find these fans, your business will grow because they will naturally promote for you.  Throughout "Think Like a Rock Star", Mack focuses on strategies for turning customers into serious fans and offers interesting examples from well known musicians.

This book is a good one for larger companies and for skeptics who still aren’t sold on the concept of social as part of an overall marketing plan.  I think it’s a better fit for national organizations than for smaller businesses.  Some sections of the book, such as building brand ambassadors may be overwhelming for the small shops and are really geared more towards the larger brands.  It’s definitely not a Social Media 101 book, so people who are just getting started would benefit from a more basic book.

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from McGraw Hill in exchange for an honest review.

Hi Tina, thanks for the review of Think Like a Rock Star! I'm glad you noted that larger companies can benefit the most from the book, because they can. The first 6 chapters are really for any size business that wants to connect and engage with their fans, but chapters 7-10 are really for how to structure internal teams, etc so it's more valuable to larger companies.

Hope you have a great week!

Thanks for the comment Mack. Definitely hoping the 'big guys' take some time to read the book.
