Ascent from Darkness by Michael Leehan

image descriptionMichael Leehan tells an amazing story of his choice to practice Satanism for many years before turning to Christianity.  In Ascent from Darkness, Leehan shares his desire for meaning in his life and how he chose the wrong direction for many years.  He shares his experience of participating in blood sacrifices and feeling an overall darkness around him once he made a decision to worship Satan.

Reading his story was pretty scary especially where he shares his prayer to Satan.  He also admits his goal was to prey on weak Christians.  This involved leaving satanic bibles around for someone to pick up and preying on the doubt of lukewarm Christians at the different churches he visited.  He makes a strong statement and a challenge to Christians when he points out there’s very little difference between Satan-worshipers and lukewarm Christians.  Both ‘worship’ things of the world.

Leehan offers a lot of detail and transparency about his battle.  For him, it was an addiction that he couldn’t simply decide to stop.  Towards the end of the book, he talks about his process of moving the other direction.  Through the efforts of persistent Christians that truly cared about him and his realization that he was only feeling worse, he gave his life to Christ.  It was a very compelling story, however, may not be for everyone.  Some of the practices he engaged in are difficult to read.

Interesting, and pretty dark stuff for you! I am still amazed at how many books you can go through in a week. Do you speed read?
